Format and selection

ECAC bowl committee

One game between two teams selected by the ECAC committee; campus hosts receive first consideration by seeding.

  1. Institutions must be ECAC members, meet NCAA eligibility rules, finish with at least a .500 divisional record and declare by the season’s entry deadline. NCAA-playoff and other-bowl selections withdraw from ECAC consideration.
  2. The committee considers head-to-head results, common opponents and the NCAA Power Index as primary criteria. Conference standing, overall winning percentage and ratings provide secondary criteria. Travel, conference separation and repeat matchups can affect the pairing.

These are documented selection procedures. They do not explain why a particular participant was chosen unless the source expressly records that decision.

History

Robert M. “Scotty” Whitelaw Bowl is one of the ECAC’s named Division III postseason games, separate from the NCAA national playoff.

The 2025 ECAC announcement assigned this bowl to a campus host. Historical selection criteria and earlier editions require further organizer-archive reconciliation; current rules are not substituted for those seasons.
